I have been out of sorts not owning my own car. I am glad I have moved on from the S2k and the Vette. I have been trying to find something that is not only class competitive but fun to drive on the street.
My first thoughts were a B Street Vette but honestly, I just don't like that much torque on street tires. The A Street Vette is more like work than fun. I honest think the SSP Vette and Hoosiers ruined me when it comes to autocross and torque.
I have tossed out anything V8 or convertible or front wheel drive.
So that has brought me to the Porsche in B Street initially. While running at Milton Frank a month ago I got to hang out with a guy running one. It really got me thinking and researching.....
The 2006 - 2008 Porsche Cayman base model is legal in B Street. That puts it running with C5's and S2k's. Those two cars have been relatively close on the national level. Comparing the #'s, the Porsche is right in the mix with the same weight but more power and torque than the S2k. From there the 2006 - 2008 Cayman S goes into A Street....I am just not sure it has enough power to go up against the likes of the C6 Z06....it only has 285 hp.
I do think it is funny that I have been mulling over a Cayman and the new Fastrack is talking about adding the car to STU. I don't really want those costs but....but...if the Cayman S is put in STU that is exactly what I will get and run it in A Street till the budget allows upgrades to STU.
One last thing...as I ramble...the 2006 - 2008 Caymans I have mentioned do not come with a factory diff option. Is that something to worry about? or does the platform dictate no need for a posi-diff since the balance is more to the rear?
Any car guys got thoughts on any of the above?

Whatever you get, you will only own for a year or 2. So just get one, and race it in AS until you get tired of it because OOH look a shiny penny.

No convertibles, no V8s, no FWD.
The only competitive cars left are boost buggies, Caymans (Caymen?), RX8s, and FRS/BRZs.
Does Heitkotter still have his STX 300ZX? You need that.

Re: my next car....plz help...
Just buy another S2K and be done with it.
-Street tires
-Not FWD
-Less torque than a 1/4-inch-drive ratchet
-CR has hardtop if the soft top is turning you off
-Gives you the opportunity to own a statistically significant portion of overall S2K production

Will, I thought you knew Berry better by now. Always looking for new/different than he's had, despite logic and weak tools.

Will...you speak great logic.
The Ford Focus is an option. Anxious to see the reviews from Europe release.

No Hoosiers? What's the point in living. A7's seem to be lasting a long time. However, if you won't build me a Lotus, it sounds like a BRZ might be a good candidate.

But I'm really hoping you buy Heitkotter's 300ZX.
Or that if you must buy a Porsche, you buy a 968 and go wreck STR with it.

Re: my next car....plz help...
Do you think the Porsche will be the car for STU with it and the WRX being limited in tire size compared to the vette?
To me, the STU C5 seems awesome. It would be fun on the streets and more in-line with the mods I would want to do on it. I would want more tire but that's the only downside I see.

Re: my next car....plz help...
I doubt it will ever be the car to have in any class. I realize I will never be a top tier driver but can be very good logically and somewhat regionally. With that thought pattern, I have moved from looking at only current class killers and more toward cars with a ton of potential and fun on the street.
STU is interesting. The only national level autocross I am interested in is ProSolo. Nationals will be very telling in regards to the Vette. Borgs car will be 10/10 developed. If gets stomped then the C5 in STU is a failure.
I would love to see the 987.2 drop into A street. I think it would still be an underdog but with 320hp, PDK, Sport +, and the XRR wheel package putting 9" front and 10" rear wheels on it would much closer to competitive.

Re: my next car....plz help...
Instead of another thread....
the current Fastrack asked membership about mid engine cars to STU. When do they normally announce car classes for next year? or decisions regarding possible changes to next year.
I am so damn antsy regarding beginning a car search.
(Thanks Will & Phil for helping!)
