Thanks to everyone for making this a great event. Even with some people on our staff working new positions the event was smooth and we got some fun runs in. Somehow we managed to stay dry as well!

Just a reminder I have started a thread about finding a new lot viewtopic.php?f=3&t=665 If you know of any, please post them up.

Also we had a few new folks out yesterday, thanks for coming out, we look forward to seeing you again!

lol :)

I really like running at the Jetport. Is the grip getting better? It is hard to tell in a Prius, but it seems like it.

Also, Loren, still looking for 100 octane pump gas so I can fuel up the kart. Not that the Prius was not an e-ticket whiteknuckled puckering ride...

So I heard... but they actually look pretty good. The entire autocross was an exercise in controlling understeer. :)

Is the grip getting better
Max and I have raced on 5 different surfaces over the past 4 weekends:
1) old bumpy sort of crumbly asphalt (Atlanta - Commerce drag strip)
2) sealed asphalt (Pelham Al.)
3) moist then dry, grippy asphalt (Dixie weekend)
4) jetport concrete

I would rate the jetport as: better than #2 and moist #3, not as good as dry #3, and way way smoother than the bumpy mess of #1, which although it had grip at times, it was too unpredictable as a bump would upset the car. We set the suspension and tire pressure up for the Jetport the same way we did at Pelham, and found the car to handle very neutral. Berry also took 2 runs in it and said the car felt really balanced.
Constantly ignored, never understood, and quite flatulent.

Great event.

I think the grip is coming up but it still takes a few runs to get the top layer scuffed off. Tire heat still feels weird to touch but that is likely due to the dust layer that collects on the tire surface after coming through the finish. I got a chance to flog a few rides. Here are my thoughts.

Bob's Vette - I think we are close on setup. Still going to take a bit more trust on front grip and adjustment of the tire pressures to get it perfect. I am really looking forward the Rival S' tires in the rear. We need to get video bad! 27.7 fast time.

Street Touring Camaro - I was really looking forward to driving it. I was not sure what to expect. He said it put 464 to the dyno. I forgot to ask what it weighed. I put power down really well, it didn't get crazy tail happy when putting the power down but then it could have been spinning like crazy for all I could tell. I know it didn't have ABS but the brakes didn't have any feel. I couldn't tell when they locked up or even really braking. The 6 pot Wilwoods must have done the job because I didn't blow a corner. Also, the biggest thing I noticed was the steering rack was very, very, very slow. Fast time on 1 run, 29.9

Dr. Jeff's BMW - I have had some time to digest exactly what I was experiencing. It is very weird. On turn in, there is bite but something didn't feel right. You really paid if you overshot a corner because the car would push for what felt like eternally. You really had to hammer the throttle to get the rear to rotate. The car seemed to balanced but to get a really good time you are going to have to drive it on the knife edge. I am thinking a run or two more would have helped me. I think my fast time in it was like a 29.3, which was very slow. I honestly think some of the weirdness I felt is the xtremely low profile tires. I think going to 17's is going to give better feedback and times.

CS Miata - don't know anything about the car. It was easy to drive, ran a 28.3 in the fun runs.

Gerald's STR S2000 - I bogged the start when I tried to roll on the gas like the Vette. It was so easy to get right back into an S2000. Easy turn in, lots of grip. It felt good. This was well balanced. I think it was a 28.8 or something.

Wess Walker STR S2000 - OMG!!! OMG!!! This was also an AP1 car. He said he had 255 square setup tires, it was on some kinda coilovers, stock swaybars, and I don't remember the springs. I learned from Gerald's car and roasted the tires on the start. From there a short shift to 2nd and the party was on. The car stuck right where I wanted it to. Slight touch of brakes and the car was cone bending around pivots. The power and grip were perfect because just before apex you could hammer the throttle and hold on. When I came across the line with a 27.5 which was faster than the Vette I just about crapped. I honestly think a few more tenths for sure were still out there. If you shot the gap at the cross over you never had to lift and that was the biggest time saver.

New feature of the front page of the web site. If you get a trophy at the end of the day, your car will be displayed in a random order on the top of every page on our web site. As you navigate around or hit refresh, the top pic will change. Just a little more bragging rights for the event!

Haha thanks, yea I think the s2k is set up pretty spot on. I'm running revalved fortune auto 500 series Coilovers and 11k swift springs front and rear. Front sway bar is a 1.25" solid saner sway bar I had set on the lowest adjustment setting, rear is the stock bar.

So I wanted to say that I was very impressed by how the event last week was run. It was very smooth and I realize that the breaking the run groups up into two heats was done because of impending weather. I loved this format it made it fair in that everyone got a chance to race on a cleaner surface. It was also much better to break up the work assignments. It is much better to stand out working a corner for forty five minutes vs three hours. I had a great time and I see the hard work that the mainstays of the club put in so we can all have good time. I appreciate ya'll's dedication and I look forward to a great season of racing this year.
